**_Education:_**** **
*A high school diploma or greater is required*. A Pharmacy Tech Licensure/certification is desirable but not required. The associate must meet all requirements set forth by the State Health Department and the State Board of Pharmacy.
**_Training and Experience: _**** **
Pharmacy Tech experience preferred but not required. Must have the mathematical proficiency required to accurately and efficiently complete calculations required for the usual dosage determinations and solutions preparation. Should be able to type at least 40 words per minute and have basic knowledge of computer systems and programs.
**_Job Knowledge:_**
Should demonstrate appropriate knowledge and understanding of the healthcare setting and the pharmacy department. Should have thorough knowledge and understanding of the required duties and responsibilities of a hospital pharmacy technician. Should have a working knowledge of pharmaceutical medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in the prescribing, dispensing and charting of medications.
**_DESCRIPTION_****:**
In addition to other duties, performs technical (non-judgmental) functions of drug preparation, drug distribution and drug charge control of inpatients, outpatients and employees in accordance with established standards set forth by the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and assists the pharmacist in ordering, receiving and returning drugs from wholesaler or direct supplier, maintains current patient profiles, represents the department as a receptionist, and performs other related work as required that is consistent with the laws and regulations. Should be familiar with the essential functions relating to drug purchasing and inventory control and the usual technician functions associated with institutional drug distribution systems. Should have knowledge of appropriate record keeping functions associated with the dispensing of prescriptions for ambulatory patients. Strictly complies with all HIPAA laws and guidelines. All other duties as outlined and/or required.
